Just Getting Started

Hello All!

My name is Ivy. I'm a 35 year old Brooklynite and I have recently decided to finally take the plunge and get the Lap-Band. I have, as I'm sure many others have, struggled with my weight for the better part of my life. I have yo-yo'd up and down and progressively up since the 6th grade and now is the time to finally get this under control. I am just plain tired of it all and ready to move to a new place in my life. This is about me taking care of me and nothing else. I want to be happier, healthier, and friggin smaller already! I have failed at weight watchers (I like to call it falling off the WeWa Wagon), I have unsuccessfully taken dietary supplements from Herbalife to Dexatrim to Hydroxycut, I have done Jenny Craig, and joined a gym. Nothing has been able to be the right tool for me, and now this will hopefully be what works for me... permanently. I am excited to get moving and look forward to getting to know some of you in the process. Wish me luck, my first consultation appointment is June 13th!

~Ivy

Also from Bkyn

Advise most insurance companies want 6 months of dr documented weight visits, discuss what you have tried including exercise and diet, sleep study, chest xray, blood work, etc. Start the 6 month dr stuff now so that you wont have to wait as long other wise you wont have surgery till jan. Once you make the decision the time just creeps by..

good luck and keep posting

Theresa

I live in Manhattan, so it's good to see another fellow NYC'er. there are a few of us on here.

Unless you are self-pay, you should check with your insurance to see what they will require. My insurance didn't require a 6 month diet or any of that. My surgeon requires the 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery (i am currently on day 2 and it's...ehhhhhh not so bad. not the best thing in the world, but i'm plodding along) anyway, if you have great insurance, it will be easier.

i went to the seminar in January, decided to actually move forward in late Febuary, and 2 weeks from yesterday, I am having the surgery.

good luck to you and keep us posted.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
