NSV - Finally I have one worth bragging about!

Recommended Posts

This past weekend I participated in a 5k obstacle race - Warrior Dash. I had so much fun. I completed ALL of the obstacles and the course in 52 minutes! I even think I could have done it faster but I had my kids running with me and didn't want to have them running the course alone incase they got hurt. I did the Jailbreak run back in September and thought I was going to die - I didn't complete all of the obstacles back then either. Now I am so ready for my next mud run!

Congratulations.. That's awesome. I did my first 5K last Saturday. I was so excited about doing it that when I was done I felt like I had enough energy to do it over again. I'm actually thinking about a fathers day 10K. I couldnt even run 600meters at Christmas time.

It great that you did this with you kids. I saw a lot of kids running and thought how fun it would be to run with my daughters.

thanks everyone.

@ cunner - I was amazed at how I felt afterwards compared to last September. I felt good - although I wouldnt go as far and say I could have done the course twice :) I wasn't even really sore the next day. I am also running a normal 5K May 14th, I am real curious as to what my time will be.

So I never really heard about the obstacle races before your post Maggie. In fact it never really registered that you were doing anything different than a regular road race. I have since seen more info about them in my area and found a friend and his wife are into the Warrior Dash and Spartan Races. It looks like a blast. I am definitely signing up for them next year. Good for you for finishing that. I thought going up hills in a regular 5K was a challenge. I never thought about having to crawl through mud and over walls and carry 5 gallons buckets full of rocks in a race. Talk about a real challenge. Congratulations to you too Steph !!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
