To be or not to be?

Recommended Posts

I joined the Lapbandtalk.com today. I am from South Africa and have not had the surgery done yet.

My Story: I lost 28kg by following the Weigh-Less program in South Africe. Very successful. That was 16 years ago. Since then we moved to the farm and as an extreme extrovert I really battled with the being alone on this 800ha piece of earth.

When my father fell ill I nursed him. The day he died he weighed 29kg. I told myself that I would never ever worry about my body again and should I gain weight just think of him who wanted to eat but couldn't.

Well it is 28kg later and I weigh 95kg.

The powers to be of normal weight is not with my father, or with a weight management program, it is with me. I now have to make the decision to be up and down this yo-yo dieting of me or to take the opportunity that lies in front of my eyes.

I don't want to be 80 one day and when someone asks me, what have you done say I dieted. I want to say - I live my life to the fullest and if it means have WLS then that is what I will do.

In SA the lapband costs R85000 and the balloon R30000. But, what if I have the balloon done and after it is taken out all the weight is gained?

Share your thoughts and ideas.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
