So - have any of you post-banders gotten sick yet from non-band related illnesses - just good old fashioned flu puking?

I am SCARED TO DEATH but know, eventually, it is going to happen, right? I think about the heaving until my chest hurts, the sheer AMOUNT of liquid and the split seconds with which it expels....

Does your band just completely pop off and ricochet around your organs?!!?!?!

As always, please share - good or bad.

Thanks in advance.

I was scared too. But it happened even though I loathe puking. It was fine for me. It wasn't a huge heave, just a pretty simple ordeal. Once and I was done. I was worried about slippage but nothing changed.

I don't think I did any damage, and I think it had more to do with my body repelling, not my band...

hope that helps

my brother was very sick with the stomach flu. It hurt like hell but no damage to the placement of the band

LOL the image of the band playing pingpong on my internal organs was a bit painful lol. So far I have not gotten sick *knock on wood* so I cannot answer this but I have always wondered this myself. I am actually a lot less sick since I have had the band but I am not sure if it is this fear in the back of my mind that makes me take better care of myself or what

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
