How big are your bites?

Recommended Posts

I know the mantra of bandsters is pretty much "Small bites, chew well, go slow". I guess everyone has their own opinion of how big of a bite to take. My surgeon says that each bite I take should be the size of a #2 pencil eraser, but my nutrition said it's not necessary for it to be that small. It would take me a thousand years to finish a meal at that rate.

So the question is, how big of a bite is just right?

I wish I knew. I've been taking way too big of bites/not chewing because I'm in such a rush. :( @ getting stuck without a fill. Can only imagine what it's like with one.

I eat fairly normal size bites, and don't get stuck. I eat with a baby fork and spoon at home...it's different for everyone! For me, I try to eat smaller bites to enjoy my small meal more, but I don't have any stuck issues. I would just say you don't want to mash it up too small because then it'll just slide right through..

I, also, used a baby fork and spoon when 1st starting out. Now, I use a dessert fork, always. I am making sure to chew well, as I have had a slip. Just make sure to chew.

Oh, I got stuck without a fill too. Hurt like h*ll. Now, have one fill 4cc. Lettuce got stuck last night @ a restaurant & I slimed. So embarrasing. I have to remember smaller bites and make sure lettuce has some dressing on it. I'm 3 months new, so figuring it all out. :)

I was getting stuck a lot b/c my bites were to big & wasnt chewing enough.

I started using a knife & fork with everything even when i eat deli meat. I cut it with a knife & fork and then chew, chew, & chew! It made a big difference. not sure what to comapre the size to but it's larger then a #2 pencil eraser.

my dr told me toddler size bites. So i eat really small bites and my food gets cold before the end of the meal but i am scared to death of being stuck so I'll just continue with the small bites.

I have tried both, small and large bites, small is so much easier and less painful, I would say they are a little larger than a pencil eraser but not much. I am always the last one done eating, and sometimes they are cleaning the table off before I am done. LOL.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
