I'm on a low carb (<30gm), moderate Protein (30%) and high fat (60%). Moderate Protein vs high because excess protein can cause a glucogenic response similar to carbohydrates. For someone with a compromised metabolic system, that can be a problem.

I eat just about any type of protein and green vegies. No starches, fruits or grains.

I live on fish and chicken and it's been the total key to my success. To me it's been a miracle diet and has been totally painless.

I did high protein/low carbs for the first 6-7 months of my journey. It worked flawlessly, as that's when I lost most of my weight. I focused on at least 4oz Protein each meal and did no lower than 90g a day. My carbs were 50g and below I believe. I don't stick to it anymore simply because I see no reason to. I count my calories, nothing else, though I do make sure my Protein is always high (120g+) and I still focus on my carbs sometimes, usually staying under 120g a day.

I did lowcarb/high Protein. I ate lots of fish and chicken. Also marinated pork loin and flavored chicken sausage. I snack on nuts, cheese sticks and berries. I ate only non-starchy veggies. Hope this helps.

That's what I'm eating now. I get at least 70 grams of Protein a day, 25gms from unflavored Protein Powder in my morning shake and the rest from lean meats. No bread, Pasta or rice, but I do eat veggies and some fruit with every meal. I snack on yogurt or cottage cheese. My blood sugar is way down even though the doc cut my meds in half. I hope to get off them soon.

High fat? Why?

A 5 year Harvard study on low carb/low fat vs low carb/high fat showed that more weight is lost on the high fat and lipid profiles improved at double the rate of the low fat. If you want the science behind it, here are my 3 favorite resources.

"Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes

"The Diabetes Solution" by Dr. Richard Bernstein

"The Great Cholesterol Con" by Dr. Malcolm Kendrick

If you find that you still need to take meds despite losing weight and cutting out the bread, Pasta and rice, you might check out Dr. Bernstein's "The Diabetes Solution". In order to get off all of my meds, I had to cut out grains, starches and fruit and keep my carb count low. I'm hoping that this will also reverse my insulin resistance.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
