Tight band in the mornings....

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Is it normal for a band to be tight in the mornings? I can only have liquids in the mornings or Soups. But around after lunch I can eat regular solids (slowly though). I used to be able to eat scrambled eggs but even cereals wont go down, I would vomit it all out. coffee or Soup is fine. I'm size size 38 Men's now though compared to 48 when I got banded last year...but my last fill really sped up my weight reduction. Wendy's chili is my go to fast food these days....i actually like it better that way...but when Im luck Im able to down some chicken nuggels...lol...

Yep :yesnod: , I have had that problem since I was banded. I have tried to eat eggs in the morning, but generally just have my hot tea then a shake or smoothie. :sigh: Hang in there...it gets easier!

hi there, it is so normal for us to be 'swollen' in the mornings. actually i just found out that when you sleep, the blood sort of lays in the lowest part of your body. and usually that is around your stomach area, during sleep anyway.... i can't eat until about 11am. not even hungry until then either. but at first i tried to eat anything, but it would all come back up. i can't even do a Protein Shake, too thick. so i drink coffee or a juice, or somthing. but it is normal. now worries. my doctor and the fellow doctors in his office just attended a seminar that addressed this exact issue. so there you have it.. hope i answered your question.. good luck and congrats on your loss...

My band is very tight in the am and I can't even eat until around 10 - 10:30. I do hot tea in the morning. If I try to eat then I find it makes me feel bad for the rest of the day.

Yeppirs - I can't have food in the mornings, either....but it works to stick to a shake for breakfast! I am addicted to Wendy's chili -- YUM - my favorite lunch on the go! :D

My Doc said to add some grated cheese to your scrambled eggs in the morning (remember we're not counting fat) it's the weight of the eggs that are the problem - they need a little help going down and the cheese is just enough to make it easier to stay down...I can also do yogurt with nuts in the am - and chew really well!

I'm also tight in the mornings. I can only eat cream of wheat in the morning. I put a tbsp of Peanut Butter in it and let it melt. Its added Protein, fills me and tastes great. I'm getting my second fill tomorrow, so hopefully I won't be to tight in the morning to not be able to enjoy this anymore!

Ok great, at least I dont feel alone in this. I thought it might have been too tight. But I actually got used to it, and like you guys, I start off tight so I can only have liquids....but by late afternoon I can eat few solids. For the rest of the day I snack up on yogurt, Ensure, or anything easy to digest so I keep that satiety feeling. Thanks all and good luck with yours!!

Peanut Butter in the cream of wheat and Wendy's chili: thanks for the ideas, folks. I'm another one who can't eat in the morning. Thank goodness for hot tea and Carnation Instant Breakfast.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
