a bit gross...you've been warned :-)

Hi folks,

So, I was banded on the 12th of this month and am 5 days post op. Last night I had a fever into this afternoon. The fever has passed but I have had diahrrea all day. Is that common? I'm trying to take in more liquids to make up for the lost liquid. Should I take something for the diahrrea? I wanted to go to the store, but I can only get but so far from the bathroom and also, any recommendations for a sore booty?

Liquids in= liquids out so the diarrhea is normal. Try taking a sitz bath or using some sort of diaper rash cream for the soreness.

Thanks for your response. That does make sense. I will slathering the desitin on until it clears up, I don't know why I didn't think of that. You're the best.

Yep, the runs are totally normal- don't take anything for them! I agree with diaper cream, or if you have Aquaphor, that works well too.

Try a probiotic powder (you can get them at the health food store). Sprinkle a capsule into your drink. It will put the good bacteria in your intestines after diarrhea.

I was banded March 9th, and I used the "0"calorie Powerade, or the smart water(with electolytes) to help me with the dirrhea. And keep me from getting completly dehydrated. Once I started on solids I ended up having the opposite problem for a couple weeks. Now, I think I am normal again, but I am suppose to get my 1st fill on Thursday so hopefully that whole process doesnt occur again lol Good Luck, it will pass, keep hydrated!!!

Yes-whatever you do stay hydrated. I had stomach flu a month or so after I was banded and the diahrrea was the worst I ever experienced in my life. Although I was drinking constantly I got dehydrated, and it lead to a UTI as well. :/

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
