healthyroad69 0 Posted April 17, 2011 I was recently banded on April 13, 2011. I'm so glad to finally be a bandster. I'm on the post op liquid diet and I find that I can't drink a whole shake. If I try I feel so miserable. I'm drinking half shakes for Breakfast, lunch and dinner as of right now. I know I'm supposed to get a certain amount of Proteins in so I'm a bit worried. Did anyone else experience this?
kcharr77 0 Posted April 17, 2011 Hi-i am not trying to do the Protein Shakes right now (i was just banded on the 15th) they just seem too "thick" to me right now----i am able to get down the Isopure though-i alternate between that and water-one bottle of that stuff has 40 grams of Protein so that is my plan for this first week-they have it at gnc-good luck! CheckYes 46 Posted April 17, 2011 I didn't finish a whole shake at a time for at least a week. Just do your best. No need to push it to an uncomfortable level.
TKW 501 Posted April 17, 2011 Don't worry about your protien the first few days after surgery. It is nearly impossible to get it all in. Do the best you can. It will get easier in a couple of days... no harm done. Hard to get 64 oz of Water too.
hopetolose 192 Posted April 17, 2011 I am having the same problem getting my Protein in (banded 14th). I am trying to drink Water through out the day and get 1/2 shake in 4 times a day. I only have to do this till wednesday and then I am on mushies, cant even imagine that I will want to eat anytime soon. Doctor said that I wouldnt feel hungry for the first three weeks. But I think i need to tell my stomach that because it is really mad at me and is growling at me constantly. It is really pissed off right lol
Jess55 97 Posted April 17, 2011 My first week post op I was on Clear Liquids and my instructions said only 4oz at a time, so that's all I had, I probably could've taken more but I was being careful. That first week I probably only got like 1/4 of the recommended Protein in a day. I had tried things like Isopure before hand and could not even swallow it. So the only protein I had was the Unjury chicken Soup flavor at 20 grams a scoop and u had 1/2 of that 3 times per day. Ok so maybe I got 1/2 the protein in lol. Yeah so if you can't finish it, I wouldn't worry.
GoCubbies79 31 Posted April 17, 2011 By the time my preop diet ended and I had my band put in I was so over the Protein Shakes. My doctor told me about Boost, its sold at walgeens. Its a high Protein Shake that comes in 8 ounces, has 15 grams of Protein, and it tastes like chocolate milk. It goes down easy, especially when cold. I sipped at that stuff along with Water throughout the day for the first few days. Good luck to you and wish you the best.

It is really pissed off right lol Whenever you drink a shake or Soup, or anything made with Water. You measure that water, and put that twords your 64oz of water, Because it is your water consumption. A lot of people think that besides the shakes, you still have to get in all that water. Not So , my surgeon explained to me. He said not only will you feel miserable, you'll float away... So count that water. It will make a difference. I put a 64oz bottle in my fridge every night, and the next day I use it for everything. If I have any left over, I drink a glass, or have hot tea or soup. My surgeon loved that Idea, he said he was going to tell all his patients to do this. Check with your surgeon.

I was getting a little concerned. I appreciate it. But their is Water in that mixture. Say 50%. so if you drink a 11oz. shake say 5 oz was water. Trust me.... This all adds up. ElizabethNYC 1 Posted April 18, 2011 I am over a month banded and I still can't get the full 8-10 ounces down at a time. It takes me pretty much all day to finish it.
