Can you explain to me exactly what you feel when you're restricted? Over eaten ? And/or stuck ......?

Restricted - I can eat 1/2-1 cup of food (depending on the food) and not be hungry for 4-6 hours.

Over eaten - feels like food is caught in my throat and I need to vomit to bring it up. Or feel like I need to. When I do bring something up, instant relief.

Stuck - feels like a hard dull pain in my chest, a similar feeling to how it feels when you actually get something stuck in your throat, that all encompassing pain. Once it clears there is immediate relief.

Although I did not ask the question I thank you for answering. I am 17 days post op and I have been wondering about restriction. Right now when I eat something I cut myself off it is not the band. I assume when I get my first fill it will be different. The only time I feel over full is when I drink my Protein drink which is 11oz. .

Restriction is not what you are aiming for. Satisfied is what you should be aiming for.

The band does not restrict what or how much you eat or at least not in the way we would like it too. It will not stop you eating high cal, slider foods. It will not necessarily tell you that you have had enough but it will let you know when you have had too much but by that stage you are already in pain and/or uncomfortable. A lot of the control still has to come from your head. That is if you serve up a portion of the size and type of foods that your NUT has recommended with a properley restricted band you should be able to eat that and not be hungry again for 3 - 4 hours. It is a far different feeling to being full preband . EAT SLOWLY, MAKE SURE THE food IS SITTING WELL(YOU WILL GET USED TO THE SENSATION)AND THEN TAKE ANOTHER BITE.

It sounds confusing but you will work it out.

After a year of getting fills, I'm FINALLY experiencing restriction from my band. It is a HUGELY different feeling from having little to no restriction.

Before restriction - will power was my main tool and I suck at will power

With Restriction - I have to be careful about what I eat and how I eat .. eat SLOWLY and chew, chew chew. I can eat different amounts and different foods at different times of the day. Like Elcee said, "EAT SLOWLY, MAKE SURE THE food IS SITTING WELL(YOU WILL GET USED TO THE SENSATION)AND THEN TAKE ANOTHER BITE."

Overeating - is an uncomfortable feeling. It can even be miserable and a little painful. I'm learning to read the signs of being satisfied before I get to full. You don't want to be full. You want to be satisfied. I eat between 1/2 cup to 1 1/2 cups of food, depending on the food and time of day.

Stuck - causes pain in the center of the chest with coughing and slimming (which is a thick, saliva.) My first stuck episode lasted 1 1/2 hours. This is something to be avoided. It's a good deterrent and reminder to do things the right way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
