Hi, I was recently banded April 7th, 2011. Before the surgery I had to do a semi liquid diet and now post-op I am doing a completely liquid diet of Clear liquids and Protein Shakes. Since January 24th, 2011 I have been starting to get back into a diet I managed to lose 24 pounds with a few ups and downs before my surgery....

Now I have lost a total of 41 pounds since surgery and am going through hell trying to stick with liquids. I haven't cheated or anything but I literally dream of pizza every night! I have a few questions with the mushy stage to come:

1. Will I gain all the weight back I have worked my butt off to lose?

2. Will I start to feel better? Because right now I feel like I just had surgery...

3. What type of foods did you guys eat in order to keep the weight off?

Thanks so much.Looking forward to the tips !

HI BOston,

Are you from MA by any chance... I am from Worcester MA. Anyways.. I have not gained any weight since being banded on 12/6/10. I have lost 82.2 lbs! I am at a rough spot; but it WILL pass!

YOu will feel better eventually! Remember your body just had surgery! I didn't really start to feel better till about a month after! But then again everyone is different and our bodies heal differently!

I can't eat bread! I really wish I could, but just as well cause I love BREAD! It makes me sick and gives me really bad sliming episodes! So I just stay away! I am back to mushies/pureed food, trying to start all over agaiin... I really am havin difficulty this week.. I haven't eaten a real meal since LAST Friday! Was nearly in the hospital due to dehydration... so PUSH FLUIDS!!

Check out my blog below... Good luck on your journey!

You shouldn't gain it back, though when you start transitioning into food you may gain a couple or pounds, or not lose. But don't worry it's normal, your body is readjusting to food. You've lost 41lbs in a week? or 41lbs since January?

You don't feel better already after 10 day? Can you get up and go out and do things? I know being on liquids sucks, but physically you should be able to do that by day 4 or 5. You should feel better once you can eat some food.

The only main rule is follow a 900-1200 calorie diet, and get in as much Protein as possible, that helps keep you full. Some people do low carb..whatever works for you. It should get easier after you start getting filled, and your hunger goes away.

No, I am able to move around and do stuff. I don't really have a choice I go to school in Boston and have to walk to class-which is 15 minutes and hilly. I have lost 41 pounds since January 24 in total... 24 on the day of my surgery (April 7th) and 17 since then!

Thanks for your advice- I think I am going to try to exercise more as soon as I get on mushies right now I just walk a little bit.

Wow congratulations!!! Yeah I am afraid bread might get stuck for me. I go to school in Boston but i actually live 25 minutes from Worcester around the Hopkinton area.

Yeah I am definitely trying to keep up with my fluids...it's hard when you're on all liquids..at least i get to eat mushies soon!! Please stay out of the hospital and good luck on your journey too!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
