7 weeks Post OP ~ Vacation

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I will be banded in May and going away for 4 day weekend vacay on 4th of July weekend.

My question is this ~ will I be able to tolerate some foods 7 weeks Post Op.

By no means do I want to pig out but it would be nice to have small portions of regular food while on vacay :0/

Thanks

You'll need to follow your surgeons meal plan. They vary so much that no one can really predict what stage you might be on. I would suspect most regular foods would be ok by that point. Most people get their first fill six to eight weeks after surgery so you might want to really consider that.

You may find, after surgery, that you are not as invested in what you will be eating in July as you are now. I lost my appetite completely and now eat for fuel rather than enjoyment.

@ CheckYes ~ you're absolutely right about this. Will not worry about this ~ I will eat for fuel ~ and focus on the ultimate goal !! Thanks

I went on vacay about 7 weeks out from my surgery too. I was on normal foods at that point. To be honest I did not eat as good as I should have, but 5 out of the 7 days I woke up early and walked in the beach and was on my feet most of the day (we were doing a spay/neuter clinic) and the walking and standing won out of my poor eating (we were cooked for mist days so I did not really have a choice in what I ate) I came back and had lost 1/2-1 lb. Not a lot but good for being on vacation

At 7 weeks post-op I went on a cruise. I postponed my first fill until after the trip. Not so that I could eat, but for fear of a complication and not being near my doctor. My surgeon did not have me on a food plan at that point. He said have fun. Don't worry about your weight. After fills is when we worry about weight.

I did my best to make decent choices and actually lost a pound on a 10 day cruise.

But of course, check with your doctor and see what type of program you will be on then. I expect you will be on regular foods by then.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
