Can a person who never had acid reflux prior to banding have acid reflux 2 days post op? I am feeling a minor or slight burn in my chest near the left side of my chest. What could this be?

It sounds more like phrenic nerve pain form the band itself vs acid reflux. you have a lot of swellign the first 1-2 weeks so hopefully it will settle down. You can always call your surgeon, though...

I wonder if you already have Fluid in your band. Some surgeons put it in during surgery and when I hear about reflux right off the bat, that is usually the cause. Maybe check in with your surgeon and see if you do. If you have fill, you might want to consider having it removed.

Yes it can be acid reflux.

My Dr (and many others) suggest taking Prilosec OTC for a minimum of six months following surgery. For me this has completely eliminated any acid reflux. The actual pills (not generics) are quite small.

@checkyes. my doctor did not fill the band, we discussed that right after surgery. @ Acadia thanks I didn't realize this could cause acid reflux 2 days out and I am on liquids only. I hope its just that I am still healing and it will go away. Someone else said phrenic nerve pain from placement. Oh my this is alot to consider 2 days out. I will call my doctor Monday.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
