Hey Ya'll!! What made you choose Lap Band?

Recommended Posts

Hey Ya'll!

I'm glad I've found this site. I have been thinking on and off about proceeding with lap band surgery for over 2 years now. I've struggled with my weight my entire life. I joined the military in 1999 and was at a very healthy weight. I stayed at a good weight and was in excellent shape. Well, I met my hubby and got pregnant and gained over 100lbs with my son. No diabetes, just large babies run in the family. My son weighed 11 lbs at birth. Now, 5 years later, and I'm still about 130 lbs over weight. I'm attending a seminar on lab band on May 3rd. I just wanted to introduce myself and meet some of ya'll that can share your experiences with me!

Thanks in advance!

Darah

Welcome Darah. I am scheduled to be banded on May 20th! Wow I still cant believe it's finally happening. I live in Chicago. I researched the band for about 5 years. I decided on the band cuz oddly enough before it was even invented I used to say if i had something that would make me sick if i ate too much I'd lose weight! Bam! Lap Band! LOL! So as of right now I dont really have any advice to share other then research, research, research and ask your doctor as many questions as you need the answers to. I actually carried a little note pad with me in the days leading up to my consultation so i could write down questions as they came to me. Best wishes on your choice to be banded!

Jennifer

For me, lap band was a better option because it''s more natural. Slower, healthier weight loss and less chances of side affects like dumping (getting sick from sugar or other certain foods). As a side note, the lap band does not make you sick if you eat the wrong choices of foods or even if you eat too much, it can be VERY uncomfortable and you might regurgitate some of what you ate, but it's not actually getting sick. It is a much slower process typically, but there are many great success stories on here of people losing incrediable amounts of weight and keeping it off. I hope to be one of them one day.

Best of luck to you and keep these forums handy, they have been very helpful and supportive for me :)

Hi Darah, I'm new to this site and still trying to figure out how to talk to people, anyway I work for a large company and know 5 people that had the lapband surgery. I was going to get it done last year but decided I would try on my own one more time and for the zillionth time I lost weight and then put it right back on. I'm tired of starving to lose it and then eating like crazy again. I believe this will really help me to control my overeating. I am on my 5th day of preop diet and all I can have is 3 protien shakes and 1 sugar free Jello or yogurt but some people eat more than that it depends on the dr.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
