Do I need an attitude adjustment or a workout adjustment?

Recommended Posts

I was banded 2/18, and I feel totally awesome, but I know I REALLY need to get better at working out. I'm dragging my feet on this one because whatever workout I choose to do must be something I know I can do consistently. What I really want to do is go to the gym. Oh how I would love that. But I have my 2-year-old daughter that I can't take with me (and no one to watch her while I go), and it's not in our strict budget right now. Perhaps next year, but not this year. Anyway, I have an elliptical machine which I do, but it's so boring to me, I can't bring myself to be on it longer than 20 minutes. Ugh. I have an xbox, so I was thinking about getting the "Your Shape Fitness Evolved" which has pretty darn high ratings and would keep my attention for longer than 20 minutes (or at least I hope it would). I guess my question to those who have been successful at integrating exercise, did you find a workout that you enjoyed that kept you motivated? Or did you learn HOW to enjoy the exercise that may have started off being ridiculously dull? Should I be trying a few things out until I find the thing that I can get into? Or do I need an attitude change (which is often the case) and just discipline myself to get on the elliptical until I like it and can't live without it?!

Well, I would choose to get to be pals with my elliptical....20 minutes at a time several times a day would be wonderful...I hope you have a TV in front of it...maybe record some evening programs and watch them while you E. Good luck, I went through the same thing and made friends with my treadmill and now use it even before work in the morning. Yes, it hurts but the scales and food journal are saying it is a good thing!!!

Best wishes, Mimi

It sounds like you have all the equipment you need, just not the motivation. :( I totally get it! You have many more options than I do. Lucky you! It took me a loooonnnng time to get going with the exercise consistently. I have medical problems (back surgery, spinal stenosis) so my choices are limited (although I tried Zumba and it was great, but I was bedridden for a couple of days afterward -- hurt my back  ). I walk 2 1/2 miles M-F before going to work. I get up at 5:15 and I am at the park by 5:45. On the weekend, now that the weather is nice, I do 3 miles at the Marina on Saturday mornings. It took some doing to get me there. My weight loss was slow so I had to make up my mind that I really wanted to do something about it. Once I had it in my head that I was willing to do it, voila! I HATE to miss a day. Oh, and I MUST have my iPod playing when I walk ... that's a deal breaker. No iPod, no walk. LOL

If I had an xbox at my disposal (there is one in my house but it belongs to my 20 yr old nephew/son - I raised him, and he doesn't like to share), I would get the "kinnect" (sp?) and go to town! Eventually I will buy one, just not in my current budget. Anyway, I suggest you experiment with different things and then find what's right and fun for you. But first, make up your mind that you want to see changes in your weight loss.

You are going to be soooo proud of yourself once you get going!

Good luck.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
