happytobemefinally 1 Posted April 14, 2011 My brothers wedding is mid September and I'm standing up. Today his fiance called and said I must be fitted for the dress this weekend. I'm losing weight continuously and I know for a FACT I will not be this size come mid September so what do I do???? I believe alterations can only take a dress in by two dress sizes which I still don't believe will be enough considering I have a HUGE fear of wearing anything strapless and have been working out like CRAZY!!! HELP!!! What would you do????
JAM2YOU 2 Posted April 14, 2011 How large is the wedding going to be and are you the only bridesmaid. If you are I would explain your dilemma to her and see if she would agree to a more off the rack bridesmaid dress/gown that you could wait to the end of the summer(august) to pick it out and if the dress shop cannot guarantee it in time then take it to a local tailor that is not as busy as a bridal place. Lizzy Fu 0 Posted April 14, 2011 I would have them make the dress one size smaller than you are now. That way, when it's ready and you get fitted right before the wedding you can have them take it in 2 sizes (which will end up being 3 total). And if you don't end up dropping any weight between now and then (which we both know won't happen, but just in case) it will only be one size too small, and you can have them let it out just a single size. Jess55 97 Posted April 15, 2011 I had heard you just need to get your dress like 3 months in advance ? My sister is getting married in November and I am worried about this as well. I'm going to try to wait as long as I can before getting the dress
honk 780 Posted April 15, 2011 I agree 5 months seems excessive.
kll724 3,055 Posted April 15, 2011 5 months is not so excessive, they put the summer styles out in the winter and early spring. But, back to topic, I would, also, order 1 size smaller, then you can have the dress taken in if you need it. My daughter-in-law wore a strapless that we had to pin the day of the wedding, she had pre-wedding jitters and lost several pounds form the last sizing to the wedding day. Buy some big pin, and hope for the best! Karen
a dairyfarmers chubbywife 1 Posted April 15, 2011 This is tough...it happened to me last year. I had my surgery in February and I was to be in a wedding that November. Calculating that I would only loose 2 pounds a week I went for a dress 3 sizes smaller than what I was then wearing (I was in a 26, bought a 20). Come October I was in a 14! There was no way that 20 could be taken down to a 14, so I scrambled and lucked out and found one on Craigslist. See why this is tough?! I would honestly suggest you wait as long as you can, because your weight loss might be as aggressive as mine was and you'd be stuck with a dress you can't wear. Good luck! ~Annette~

KristenC 13 Posted April 15, 2011 Reading this post just made me think about what I'm going to do. I got my bridesmaid dress right before I even thought about Lapband surgerywhich was at least back in November. I ordered the size I am now. My surgery is May 11th and that will give me 5 months to lose weight. The dress is simple so I'm hoping it won't be an issue to take in.
happytobemefinally 1 Posted April 16, 2011 Thanks for all the advice! I've decided to get fitted tomorrow and order 2 sizes smaller, if by September I am even smaller hopefully they can take it in if not at least I tried. I to think 5 months is excessive but my family seems to be blaming this on me and the fact that I'm "high maintenance" so instead of attempting to postpone the fitting I will do as they say and if they end up with a skinny girl in a fat dress oh well...just as long as I'm skinnier
