Lapband Fills

Recommended Posts

Hi I am a Newbie too and I have already had my Lapband and really had no problemes as far as vomiting goes my problem is the fillings . I had my Surgery on Dec. 20th 2010 with a starting weight of 252 on the day of Surgery . I lost 19 lbs. on the diet they put me on 2 weeks prior. I had my 1st filling 4 weeks later on Jan. 17th 2011 and the 2nd fill on Feb. 21st. I am sceduled for a 3rd filling next week. I have only lost 7lbs since the surgery. The Doctor said everyone is different and it could take as many as 6 adjustments or fillings before we find the one that workes for me . My question is this......How many adjustments is the norm and is there anyone else out there who is having or has had the same problem? I really need some positive words that this is going to work.

Hi,

I am new on this website but thought it would be a good place to try to ask some questions. I had my lapband done in April 2008. I had it done at the Hospital Angelos in Tiajuana, Mexico. I had the first fill done about 3 months after (5cc). I was losing weight pretty good. I lost about 40 lbs in about 9 months since I got it done. Then I plateaued and did not lose anything at all for about 6-8 months so I went in to get it adjusted. I had originally 5 cc in, they put 7 in. When I had only 5 in there, I could eat pretty much whatever I liked, no problems whatsoever. When they put 7 in there, I had more trouble eating, I could definitly tell it was there and it stopped me from eating so much. The problem is, I gained back 30 lbs in less than 3 weeks!!! Since then, I have been struggling to get that weight back off again. I went back to the Dr a few months later (couldn;t get in for an appt) and tried to put more in put had problems with it. Dr took everything out and told me I needed to go to get a flouroscopy. Did that, long story short, now I have only 5 cc in there again and I can't eat anything! If I eat more than a few bites, it comes right back up! Never had that problem before. Even worse, it has been over 3 weeks now and I have not lost anything!!! I can;t go to the Dr til I get home which will be at least another week and I doubt I will be able to get an appt for a while longer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is wrong????? I am getting incredibly frustrated with all this, I had such high hopes that I would finally be able to lose some weight. Now I am thinking this might turn out to be just another failure. Has anyone else had such problems getting the right fit for the band to work right???

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
