Well I'm officially banded!

Recommended Posts

I was banded yesterday April 13th and it's still sinking in that I went through with it. It was pretty cool because when I arrived I was a little nervous but the waiting room turned into a mini-support group...there were 4 people there waiting for fills and when I told them I was going in for surgery they were so excited for me and full of good advice. One lady had lost 92 lbs and another one lost 125 lbs. They were definitely encouraging and calmed my nerves. If you ladies are out there, thank you! I was excited to learn that I was down 16 lbs from my consultation weight after 2 weeks on the pre-op diet. The surgery itself went smoothly...didn't quite know what to expect because I have never had an operation before. I woke up a little nauseous but they injected something in my IV which took that away...then I became really drowsy. The nurses brought up a huge bouquet of yellow roses from my hubby who was waiting downstairs which was so sweet. As for the recovery, I'm doing pretty good....a little tender in the stomach area and a little bit of gas but not as bad as I'd expected. The hardest part now is not being able to pick up my 8 month old who just cries for me all the time sad.gif

Congrats to you. I'm looking forward to my band on the 18th. I know how you feel about not being able to pick your little one. My son is 3 and there is no way he is going to understand....he comes over to me all the time and wiggles those little fingers and says "hold you" (which means 'hold me' because I say - do you want mommy to hold you). Good luck to you and it seems like your recovery is going well. Keep us posted.

I went through it with the kids. I have a 1yr old and a 3 year old. I actually picked them both up but was told not to. It didn't hurt my recovery. (22lbs & 34lbs). The 1yr old can't get out of the crib by himself. It helped sometimes to sit on the floor and let them crawl on my lap. I could hold them that way with no problems. I just put a pillow in front of my stomach and held them on the floor. I also would lay on my side on the bed hugging a pillow and let them crawl on me. It was doable. Good luck!

congratulations! You're now part of "Band Nation", The part about your 8 month old hit me right in the stomach. I love yellow roses! What a cute thing of your hubster to do! Please please remember to take it easy during recovery, you'll start to feel better in a few days but don't over exert yourself. Welcome to your new beginning!

Be sure to pick up Gas X & heating pad before surgery. Theses two thing made the difference in my recovery.

I was banded on 3/22 & had to also have hiatal hernia repair (which I didn't know to after surgery was complete). So, most of the discomfort I had was from the hernia repair. My left shoulder is the area of my pain. So, with Gas X & heating pad it got better fast.

Good Luck & prayers!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
