Your Lap-Band and Dating....

Recommended Posts

Jackie-too stinking funny-I remember a real old episode of "the Golden Girls" and Bea Arthur making the statement "You should always be on top, that way the girls don't fall of to the side" LOL

I am also married-but I go out with friends and take my boys 7 & 9 on special days, they always want to go out to eat at sometime- Yesterday we went to TGIFridays - I ordered the chicken skewers off the appetizer menu-they have a larger order on the main menu, I just told the waitress that I would like it as my entree', the entree size comes with extras that I know I would never eat, the appetizer size was more than enough and came with just the skewers, a grilled pita, some tzecki sauce and a very small portion of slaw. The appetizers are a great way to go, and just ask for it as I did for the entree', if anyone asks just say that you are eating healthier , which is true and the portion size is much better for you. Best of luck in the dating world!!

I started dating a wonderful man about a month before I was banded and decided it best to be honest... I am so glad I did. He is very supportive.. And helps me stay on track. Besides.. I figured that if I hadnt told him every time I had to rush to the bathroom if I got stuck or sick, he would think I had issues.... We are still dating.. 5 mos now.. Down 42 lbs since.. And every date is a new adventure....Be open and enjoy the new you.

I am not worried about the eating part. I am worried about the what happens if we get naked part!

I look like a sharpei without my clothes. And without my super duper bras my boobs look deflated. And trying to wiggle your way out of your Spanx body suit is not the least bit sexy......

LOL exactly.

I don't know about everyone else, but I eat fairly normally at meal times, it's not like I eat 2 bites of food. I eat a meal.. I eat what I can. It doesn't look like I'm eating nothing. If you are worried just have Soup or something, or say something.. I probably would say something. It's something they are going to have to accept if they want to date you.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
