Hi all....

i am hoping to be Banded with in the next month or so. I am going though all the meetings as of right now and they are telling me I am a perfect candidate for the LapBand :) I am really excited to start this journey and am very aware that I will be changing my eating habits however I have one question for those of you that have been living the banded life....Can you still drink Beer and if so how much? Like a half and can and that is all, a can or 2? I guess I am just worried with Summer comin gup cuz I enjoy having a beer every now and again i the Summer with my friends....

Thanks so much!!!

Every surgeon is different. Mine doesn't want me to have anything carbonated ever (including beer), but my fiance's surgeon says once in a while is OK. The carbonation has the potential to stretch your pouch and make you feel uncomfortable, so you would have to see how you feel. Everyone reacts to the band differently.

I was told that I could have a bit. When drinking from bottle for me it seems to come back up if I try to gently guzzle. If I drink from a glass seems to be no problem. I enjoy several freezing cold pints of coors light draft once in a while and doesn't really effect the weight loss but i do count it in as far as carbs and calories are concerned. For me it keeps me grounded to know what's going down the hatch.

I enjoy the occasional beer from time to time. I just sip on it instead of taking full sized drinks.

Pour you beer in a tall glass and let it foam up, let it sit the the fridge for 15 minutes, when you go to drink it do the same with another glass and let it sit while you drink the first one, have fun. Drink on empty stomach too!

NO NO NO NO NO.........Carbonation can cause so many problems. You risk your band prolapsing...you don't want that. There are plenty of other things you can drink and your friends will understand. I have cocktail hour with my neighbors once or twice a week in the summer and they always make sure to have something there that I can drink.

I mix it with cherry or grape, I just throw a bunch of the single serving packets in my purse. I haven't had any issues with the bars not liking me doing it :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
