Eating with Baby Spoon??

Recommended Posts

Ok I go in for surgery on April 29th! Yeah! They told me to bring a baby spoon along with me. I understand kind of why but this seems strange since I won't be eating anything after band. Clear liquid diet for 1-2 days after and then liquid for 2 weeks then mushies. Can anyone tell me actually why I need this baby spoon?

That's probably the weirdest request I've ever heard. I have no idea what that could be for but once you find out I would love to know!

Do you have an overnight stay at the hospital? If you do, you do receive some Jello and Water ice the day after so they can make sure you keep something down.

I have surgery early in the morning, so it just depends on how I am doing. It does sound like I don't have to stay, which I am hoping for. Nothing is better than sleeping in your own bed. Least that is what I like. Also I understand I can have Jello and clear Items afterwards but come on the baby spoon is kind of strange to me. I kept asking them why and they just kept telling me I need to bring one. Maybe this is there way to show you how to eat "less". Wonder if they will let me graduate up to a normal spoon? LOL

Maybe it was just meant to be on your list of things to have for after surgery, I have some and also bought some coctail forks. It's really hard to shovel in food with a coctail fork or a baby spoon just because you can't put much on them. I have been using mine since surgery nearly 2 months ago and have never had a stuck episode. Also, now when I reach for a regular size spoon or fork, they seem so big. My baby spoon is about the size of my thumbnail and it really helps to keep me from over eating or eating too fast. I have discovered that one spoonful can mean the difference from comfortable and thanksgiving full.

I have small spoons but never thought about cocktail forks! What a great idea.

Have u been asked to use a small plate too? Really helps psychologically. When u c a small am't of food on a large plate, u can get discouraged. It's all about tricking your brain. My wife says I don't have a brain to trick. Lol......

I use a small plate but have never used small utensils. I just feel like I need to know how to be able to eat small bites. I wouldn't be able to carry them around with me or eat in front of people using them.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
