I am almost 9 months post op, and seriously, if my cycle gets any shorter, I will just have my period all the time. I went from 26 days (from the first day of my period to the first day of my next period) pre-op to today's lovely 18 day cycle. 18 days... that means that 6 of those 18 were period days, leaving me with 12 days a month where I don't have a period. Went to the gyno and he said I am too young to be pre-menopausal (I am 38) and said that he thought my body was in a state of flux and I just had to ride it out until my weight stabilized. Has any one else experienced this? I do not want to take the bc pill and I am going bananas with this. Need some feedback on other people's experiences... thanks ;)

Common. Weightloss throws your body off in so many ways. Fat loss often results in estrogen imbalances. I'd ride it out. My period was normal when I started losing, now that I've began lifting weights and exercising, it's magically disappeared again.:lol:

My periods used to be 28 day cycles, I am now down to 21. In January I had two periods. My Gyn said that as long as I don't continue to have mulitple period months going to a shorter cycle is normal at my age (41).

Keep an eye on it. It can be normal and it can signify some ominous changes. I was having almost continuous bleeding when they found I had endometrial cancer. I don't mean to scare you, but just don't want you to ignore it like I did for years.

I've been having the same problem; was having a period about every 7-10 days...it was AWFUL. OB/GYN told me it would keep happening until my weight loss stabalized (unless I wanted to stop losing weight; not an option). However, due to my blood pressure, she switched me to a progestin(sp?) only pill and I've gotten back to about a 25-28 days cycle but my periods are long and heavy. I haven't had cramps like this since I was a teenager; it sucks but at least I'm more regular. Don't know if that's something you're willing to consider...

Wow, this is happening to me too. I thought it was just peri-menopause (I'm 46). I hadn't connected it to weight loss, until now. Interesting....

I asked the surgeons office, PCP, and GYN if the weight loss was causing my period fluxtuations and they said no. Shrug.

I have just had a hysterectomy . My periods were all over the place - shorter gaps, longer bleeding, heavier etc. In fact of the last 83 days before my op I was bleeding for 66 ! Nothing to do with weight loss - it was age, hormones and apparently severe endometriosis. The joys of being female and of getting older.

Hope you sort out what is causing your problems and that you find the best solution for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
