Tweaked Tubing!

Recommended Posts

Bandsters and ex-Bandsters:

I've had problems with no restriction so my doctor did my last fill under fluro so we could see where things were at. Looking at the pictures it was very clear that the tubing that connects the port to the band is "tweaked." Usually the tubing meanders around, but in my case the tube bends into a sharp "V" at one point.

My doctor said this wasn't anything urgent--the fill still worked and wasn't obstructed by the "V" in the tubing. However, he suggested that if the "V" didn't undo itself it might only be a matter of time before the tubing degrades or breaks at the point of the "V".

Anyone ever seen this one before? Thanks in advance for sharing...

JD

My dr. had a pt whose tubing came disconnected; hopefully yours will fix itself b/c this woman suffered unexplained pain before they realized what happened; the dr. had to re-operate. Don't know if she had to have a new band.

anyway at least you know about the kink so you know what to look for.

Hi JD

It was over a year ago when I went for a fill under fluoroscopy and saw a kink about 3 inches from the port where the tube is to curve up. At that time I had a small fill because the doctor didn’t want to over fill me. When he would try to pull the saline back into the syringe, the plunger would not pull back easily as it should and the fill would not come back out.

So I called Dr. Sanchez and he had me return to Mexico to investigate. Dr. Sanchez found a very small hole in the fold of the kink. The tubing was repaired with a sleeve, which didn’t work, and eventually I was rebanded.

Now I’m not saying you need to be re-banded. If your tubing doesn’t fix itself a new tube can be replaced.

With my circumstance I had a faulty AMI (Swedish band) and now I have the Inamed band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
