I've got my band... but...

Recommended Posts

The past 6 days for me have been very stressful.

I can honestly say for the first time in about 4 years since being banded in '06 that because of stress I almost turned to food for comfort.

I went downstair to check my mail today and stopped into the convenience store... the chips were calling my name... I had the toonie in my hand but instead of buying the tiny bag of chips I bought a $2.00 lottery ticket and won $75.00 !!

I'm still having a crappy day but feel a little better... I've always said what goes around comes around and Karma can bite you in the behind (I normally wouldn't use the behind).

I'm trying to stay positive and I think that if I were not banded I'd be on my third bag of chips right now and on the second rows of Cookies.< /span>

I like who I am now... I've worked hard to achieve my goal and life to short to let people bring me down.

Tom, Toronto

Banded July 6 06

Wt. Loss: 140 lbs

Good for you! It's really good to hear of people who've had their bands for years still working it and maintaining their success. I hope things get less stressful for you soon.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
