It really depends on if you have insurance or if you are self-pay. The quicker you can get insurance approval the quicker you can get the surgery. My insurance took about a week to get back to me and approve me. I had my surgery 2 weeks after approval. Good luck!

It all depends on your insurance and your surgeon. Good luck with everything!!!

It took 3.5 months from intro meeting to surgery date (4/28/2011). My insurance approved me on the first try. I had a BMI of 40.6 and 2 co-morbid conditions. My insurance required a written history of all of the diets I had tried in the last few years. Some insurance companies require you to work for 6 months with a nutritionalist before getting surgery.

The good thing to keep in mind is that recovery from this surgery is really fast. The tough part lasts 24 hours. You can do light activity like walking (or sitting in class). My coworker had the surgery done on a Thursday and returned to work on Monday. So, you might consider still going down this path even if your surgery date ends up being after September. Good luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
