Will such a small fill make a difference

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

So I was up to 6.5 ccs in my 11cc band. We then went aggressive and put 1 cc in so I was up to 7.5. Well that didnt go so well and I couldn't even swallow my own saliva. Had an unfill of .5. I stayed on liquids for about 4 days after that due to swelling and they were going down fine. When I went to both musshy and solids, I could only take 2 small bites before it would come up. Had another slight unfill of .25. Now I'm back to being hungry about 2 hours after a small meal and even after I eat, I feel like I could have eaten a lot more!

Has anyone felt a difference after a fill of only .1 or .2? It's hard to imagine such a tiny amount would make a difference but I'm hoping it will!

I had a 1cc fill and was WAY to tight... Went back they took out .5 cc... still couldnt eat much solid food... so went back for another unfill of .5 cc which took out that whole fill.... Just went back a month ago and this time they added only .25 and YES i can tell a difference... I have steadily lost 1-3 pounds a week since this fill... My fills the doc said from now on would be in very small increments like that

Your welcome :) I use to think that "small fills" would be no weight loss.. I am now learning the smaller my fill the better my weight loss! This band has a mind of its own lol and I am finally getting the hang of it!

I have been getting small fills of .10, .15, .25 and I like doing it that way to creep up. I have been in the green zone the last 2 months. I lost 10 pounds since my last visit so it is time for more. I will be getting .25 on Thursday for maintenance. Small fills are very good for some people.

My first fill was 1cc. ALL of the rest have been .5, or .2 and I think I've done pretty well. Small fills work.. it's a lot easier to creep up on the right amount than to go over and have to have it removed.. as you learned. :(

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
