skinnybitchtobe 0 Posted April 11, 2011 What is a realistic weight loss on the lap band? I was banded on March 31st and have lost a total of 30 lbs since starting my 2 week pre op diet. Am I being realistic to believe that I can be down to my goal of 175lbs by Christmas? Like everyone, I wanted to wake up from my surgery skinny. Although I am losing weight at a good pace right now, I am wondering if it will slow down, especially since I am adding different food each week. Any thoughts or encouragement welcome!! Jess55 97 Posted April 11, 2011 It will slow down. I'm not sure what you weighed at surgery or what you weigh now, on my phone so I'm not sure if your goal is realistic or not. But a lot of people end up plateauing sometime during the first six weeks due to healing. I plateaued weeks 2-5, my weight loss average right now is like 1 lb per week. I've increased my activity so once my body gets used to it, I hope it will pick up. But realistically the average persons weight loss is 1-2 lb per week. If you think about it sometimes slower is better because it can give your skin time to adjust
Noturningback15 45 Posted April 11, 2011 After a year of being banded I changed my first goal weight to something more realistic for me (265). I was almost 400lbs so it seems impossible to get to a normal weight of 175 but the doctor gave me a goal weight of 199 which can be done but it will take years for me! I am such a turtle but I am going to get there! Looking at a goal of 75lbs to lose is way much more realistic than looking at a goal of 200lbs to lose lol! So, I think you can do it! HeatherinCA 10 Posted April 11, 2011 It's about 1-2lbs a week.. I lose around 6-10lbs a month. But you never know when you will plateau.. if you will cheat... things like that. Some weeks for me are better than others. Judging by your tickets. 7.5 months to lose 75lbs? That would mean you have to lose around 10-11lbs a month
Jennifer Hathaway 12 Posted April 11, 2011 It is possible. I was banded May 25, 2010 at 262 and I now weigh 149. Just follow the rules. But don't give up or get discouraged if it takes you longer. This is for life and you can do it. Good luck!

Your ticker says you have 75 pounds to go. If that's all you have to lose between now and Christmas, (and if I counted right), that's only a shade over two pounds a week. You can definitely do that. You'll have to zero in on how your band works with your metabolism, get your butt to the gym and stay there, and keep focused, but there is no reason not to expect to lose that amount by then. If it does take a bit longer to be fully down to your goal, well, consider that you didn't gain the weight overnight, so you won't lose it overnight, either. We all know it's harder to lose than to gain, so stay on target, and go for it! Good luck! Dave
