Doctor Scale and Home Scale - which is correct?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone experienced this. So, I'm on the two week liquid diet. I've been doing great so I thought. Went in to have my pre-admission testing and their scale read that I've only lost 5 pounds in 8 days. When I got home and weighed myself, according to my scale, I lost 9 pounds. When I got up this morning and weighed myself, I'm now down 14lbs. My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. I feel like I've lost the 14lbs because I'm fitting in a few clothes that I couldn't fit previously.

I'm just a bit concerned that when they weigh me, it may not be enough. I sure as hell do not want them to push my surgery back. I am soooooo ready to be a bandster.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Congratulations to all the bandsters out there and all the pre-bandsters who made the choice to live a better and healthier life!;)

the doctor's scale is correct. :-) it's the one they'll go by.

I know my home scale is about 5 pounds "heavier" than at the dr's. But I can still track the weight lost... just the starting and ending weight are off. At home it says 255... at the dr 250. So I know when I've lost 10 lbs even if my weigh in is different from the dr's.

My scale is about 2 pounds lower than the doctor only because I weigh naked at home and 1st thing before drinking or eating anything.

I am a big believer in weighing in once a week- on the same scale first thing in the morning. I believe scales are different and your weight if afected by food and drink you may have had.

This. Your weight can fluctuate 10lbs in one day. However, the doctor's will go by their scale, not yours. Still, track your own progress at home.

I go by my home scale. My docs scale usually weighs me a little less, but I'm going to be monitoring my weight at home after I stop going to my doc monthly so I use mine. As for what the doc sees your weight is obviously he will go by his

Thanks everyone. I was just so confused. LOL! Now that I remember I did have my shake and drank alot of Water before I got the hospital, plus they weighed me with my clothes on.

I just don't want it to be any problems on Wednesday...My Big Day!

Thanks again and Congrats on all of your success!

The Dr. scale is correct. Those made in CHINA,,, junks, well, I don't even own one... I wait until I go to my Dr., get weighed, and we are usually both very happy. :0) So when people ask me do you weigh yourself daily or weekly. I don't bother at all. I can tell buy my close slowly getting loser.

Just a tip if you don't want to drive yourself up the wall.

It worked for me that way, but I'm sure a lot of people will disagree.

Even my surgeon was glad that I relied only on a Dr.'s scale. He told me every month or so they have a scale company come out and check, then adjust the scales to the weights that they bring out.

Hope this makes a difference to you.

Shirley.

@54Shirley

You are absolutely right. This weigh in is driving me up the wall. Thanks for your comment. I'll go by the doctor's scale.

you should see if you can "calibrate" your scale at home to match that in the Dr. office, most scales can be adjusted (calibrated). then it would be the same. I hate scales. Don't own one! (that's not to say that I am not obsessed with the one at the gym) lol...

Oh, and to answer your question.. the one that is right is the one that weighs you the least! Good Luck, you should be fine as long as you are losing weight and not gaining they should go ahead with your surgery!

My doctors scale always says I lost less BUT when I weigh myself in at home I do it naked in the morning right after I've used to bathroom. So I haven't eaten or had a drink yet.

Even if you owned the exact same scale your doctor has, you'd weigh at different numbers on the same day, due to all the environmental factors others have previously mentioned. My doctor's scale shows me to be about ten pounds heavier than when I weigh myself at home. Deduct clothing, time of day, Water consumed, and what I've eaten that day, and I'd pobably weigh more the same.

But short of taking my scale into the doctor's office to weigh myself the same way at the same relative time, it's not a big deal. I accept their scale numbers as my "official" weight, but I use my own numbers from home here and elsewhere because those numbers are just as valid, for the consistency of when and how I weigh myself. Plus, they're lower. HAH! :)

Yea, well as far as your doctor is concerned.. his scale matters. But of course, i weight much less when I first wake up, naked, then I do with 5 pounds of clothes on and shoes at the doctors office after lunch.< /p>

If one has a heart condition, as I do, it's very important to weigh in daily in the a.m. If you gain a significant amt., you may be retaining Water and should seek medical advice.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
