How unsightly are the incisions?

Recommended Posts

It's my understanding that there will be 3-4 small incisions on the belly - are they big? Do they leave a scar? Does anyone have a picture of there after surgery scars? I am just trying to prepare myself for what it will look like - I have stretch mark from being pregnant so I am not worried about bikini wear-just curious! :P

Mine are less than a month old but I will take a picture for you. The biggest is abotu 2 inches long. The end of that one and one of the smaller ones both had some trouble healing so look a littlle nasty and I still have some mild bruising from the heparin they gave me. One of the incisions in the picture is actually from my galbladder surgery 5 1/2 yrs ago, so you can see how that healed. be warned htough that even htough i am really fair, some of my incisions heal with keloids (more ocmmon in dark skin) so mine may be uglier than most...

stand by it'll take me a litle while to take & upload a pic

They are not unsightly at all -- I'm 3.5 months out and I just have 2 small pink lines on the side of my belly button---

For a moment I thought you were vane..... They are not big at all, just some small holes, and mine has about a 2" long looks "like s slit" not quite a scar because he closed it from the inside. Anyway thats where he put the port in at.

:huh:I am very fair and I bruise pretty easily. No one sees my belly anyway-but I just wanted to know. Where is the port? Is it on your side? Do they inject a needle in your side for fills? Can you feel the port? Thanks everyone!

my port is 3 inches above and to the right of my belly button. They stick the needle right in for my fills. I had my surgery June 21 2010 and I had 5 incisions 4 small ones i cant even see any more and one above my belly button (where my port is) thats about 2 inches long... you can see it but its not terrible

Hope that worked! Please remember mine are still pretty new...eventually they will fade a lot. My port is on my right side about 2" to the right and above the biggest incision. I put dots over my lap-scars and the arrow points to my gallbladder scar.

Pam thanks for posting that link! I'll go peek too.

I have 5 incisions. The only "bigger" one is my port which isn't that big at all (2 inches if that). That one is still a little red. As far as the other 4 they just look like little holes and I can see those fading a lot quicker than the port incision. I'll try and upload a photo as well, might have to give me a few though.

I think the blood thinner shots were the WORST! I had one in my stomach right before surgery then another one in the back of my arm around 10 that night and my last one in the back of my other arm the next morning and my arms were SOOOO sore and the bruises were so bad, I actually think they're still there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
