pain near the port

Hello 1st time for me posting on this site. I wanted to know if anyone that has been banded has had any kind of pain near the port area? I was banded on 11/4/03 by Dr Chua in Milwaukee WI. I have had my 1st fill on 12/8 and my next fill is coming up on Monday 1/12/04.

I have had this pinching or bruising pain in between the 2 incisions the port and the top incision. It hurts no matter what, walking, sitting, standing. If I bend its enough for me to put my hand over that area as it hurts.

Does anyone know is this common for this to happen this far out after surgery?

I appreciate any help or suggestions anyone has.

Angel

Hi,

I am not sure if this is common with everyone but I experienced the same type of pinching, pulling pain near and between port site and another entry site. I still experience some pulling or pinching at port area on occassion (but now ONLY at the port area).

I am 13 months out and the feeling has lessened over this time. Every month it became less and less.

I think you still are in the healing process. Take your time and move a little slower. If the pain continues or becomes worse please contact your doctor immediately on this matter (just to be on the safe side).

I just logged in to ask the same question! I was banded two weeks ago, and depending on how I move, I also feel pinching pain near the port. My question is the same as yours. Is this something I should be concerned about, or is it part of the normal healing process?

I agree with onemoment. From time to time I become more conscious of my port site because of internal tugging and sometimes sharp pangs or pings. They had to cut through and suture muscle, after all, and I guess that takes time to heal. And I don't know about you, but even very old injuries I have can flare up from time to time--not causing real pain, exactly, but just making themselves known.

The human body is a strange and awesome thing. :)

Thanks Alexandra. This is certainly not the first time you have helped put my mind at rest. I see Dr. Kurian next week for my 2 week post-op check, so I will discuss it with her.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
