Wondering if I may have stretched my pouch

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I am just wondering how easy it is to stretch out the pouch. I am just under 2 weeks out, and the other night I was drinking some cream Soup. I was feeling very unsatisfied after 1 full cup, so I poured myself another. (note, not very hungry, just unsatisfied) I drank about 2/3 of the second cup and my stomach felt like I'd just eaten Thanksgiving dinner. I mean, I was FULL. It hurt for probably an hour. I don't know how soup could do that but I guess I did. anyway, today I was allowed to try strawberries and bananas. I was able to eat a whole banana, and about 4 or 5 strawberries and don't feel full at all. I am not hungry, but not really full either.

Am I just being paranoid or what.......?

Since you were just banded you have no restriction yet and until you get a good restriction what you can eat probablly won't change without you monitoring yourself. I lost almost 30 lbs before my first restriction cause I felt different but when I saw my esophogram I was wide open. Its normal for your restriction to loosen a little overtime and you learn to eat whats good for you.

Good Luck!

According to my surgeon it would take long-term abuse to stretch your pouch.

I highly doubt you have stretched it. The liquid goes through pretty quickly and most of us here have had that sick full feeling !

I wouldn't worry. I've read that it takes a long time of consistent abuse to stretch it. (Or long-term acid reflux).

I'll just let you know-- for me, I've had to learn to stop eating when I'm "not hungry". That's what you might start training yourself to do-- don't look for full, look for not hungry.

I know what you mean about that uncomfortably full feeling. I've done it several times over the last 6 months and I hate that feeling! It has motivated me to pay careful attention to how I'm feeling and stop well before it gets to that point.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
