Can fatty food be healthy for you?

Source: Vitamins and minerals that fight disease and warn off the potential for getting sick. The immune system is boosted up every time these fats are eaten giving you more energy. Studies have shown that the hair, teeth and nails all see positive results from foods with high healthy fat content as well. This is because of how the body absorbs and processes it. As long as you know which fats are healthy you will be better equipped in knowing which foods to buy.

Which fats and how much fat is being ingested is the real issue. Understanding how fat benefits the body and knowing which fatty foods are healthy is what's rarely discussed. Much of the controversy revolves around corporate greed that dictates to the public various products designed to appear healthy. There is a complete disregard from sound science and clinical testing that shows the truth about fat.

Keep reading...still a bit of hype here. Studies are showing that saturated fat isn't a problem either...although it is correct about the trans fats being a problem.

A high fat diet (whether they're the 'good' fats or not) is still bad when combined with a high carb diet. If someone chooses to eat a diet high in carbs, then they will have to watch their fats...even the good fats. A high fat diet when combined with a low carb diet (and we're talking less than 60gm per day), however, has shown to be very beneficial.

"Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes

"The Diabetes Solution" by Dr. Richard Bernstein

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
