Band segment on Montel this am

Recommended Posts

Montel had Khaliah Ali on his show this morning. It was a very positive segment. She looked good and has lost over 1oo lbs in about a year. She said like us all that she had never felt better.

Then they brought out Dr. George Feilding from NYU who did her surgery he said that things are changing and this has been in europe since 1990 and only FDA approved in the US since 2001. He said he believes that banding will replace the RNY as a favored procedure as pepole become more aware of it. He had a band in his pocket that he showed and explained how it could be adjusted.(a great benefit) You hear Khaliah Ali say it doesn't hurt when he talks about the fill.

Really a good boost for the band. But then I guess I am predjuce. When I went to get my band the doctor thought I would do better (316lbs) with the rny, I had to tell him point blank that the rny has been being done for years and I would not have one. I would be banded or I would be fat. This was my individual choice. He said ok and told me about the band. (I believe each person should make the decision for themself because only they will have to truly live with it)

It was the most favorable thing I have seen on the band. And I am so glad the were not talking about RNY in any detail because it seams then people always get confused on what was said. This segment said clearly that this procedure is way better than the rny procedure and explained why.

Did anyone else see it? Trish:eek:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
