Pain.... Stomach pains

Recommended Posts

So I'm having hunger pains that are pretty extreme and they are causing me to be in more pain cause my stomach is growling really loud and it is hurting my port area. Is that normal? Is there supposed to be resitiction right now on drinks? After a few sips of Water I tend to get a stomach ache and it comes an goes kinda like little contractions. Ok really sore and trying to rest but also move around a bit. Just want to know if these things are normal. Thanks.

Hey there,

We started at exactly the same weight on our surgery date. We should keep in touch.

Because you were just banded, you may have some restriction due to swelling from the surgery itself. Some surgeons put Fluid in the band at the time of surgery - mine didn't - but some do. If you can't keep Water down, you probably have some fill. You might want to check with your surgeon but at this point, you should sip once every few minutes. I think the goal for me was to drink 6-8 ounces of water an hour. If I remember correctly, the Protein shakes took forever to drink because they were a bit thicker. I didn't finish a shake in one sitting until about day 5. You just need to try to do your best.

I think your port area may be hurting because of the actual surgery. Your port may be directly behind your largest incision so if it is not on the incision level but behind then it could be because your port is stitched to your muscle and that takes a while to heal.

As for the hunger pains - you must follow your surgeons meal plan. Don't advance to mushies without approval. Try to drink your Protein. If you are allowed sugar free popsicles - they made me feel like I was "eating" something rather than drinking and it helped. I held a bit in my mouth until it was totally liquid and then swallowed.

I wish you the best of luck. Hope recovery becomes a breeze for you.

I was banded two weeks ago and I had the exact same thing. Like contractions or spasms. I had them for the first week and then they went away. I think it's just the body's way of settling and getting used to a foreign object!

Thanks. It hasn't gotten any better I'm in ALOT of pain and all I was given is Tylenol with codeine I wish they wouldn't gave me vicodin or something cause the Tylenol just isn't cutting it. I been taking gas x strips those help a little but my left shoulder has some MAJOR air/gas stuck in it. That's making it somewhat hard to take a deep breath. My hunger is bad but after I drink a Protein Shake it kinda goes away a bit. My family had mcdonalds today I didn't have no temptation I was proud of myself I didn't care for it but I'm more worried about not having pain.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
