Hello there,

I am lap band pt about 10 months out.. I had a fill yesterday, I was at 9cc's in a 10cc band and my PA gave me .75 so now that would make me at 9.75, 1st off... WOW that I have that much in me, and 2nd I am to be on liquids til tomorrow AM. As I am able to keep the liquids down it is a little tough.. I can feel the liquid just sitting there and if I tried (and mind you) I wouldn't have to try to hard I could get it to come back up. I am taking tiny sips and waiting a few mintues inbetween each sip. What i am wondering is if I am having this kind of trouble with the liquids I will probably really have trouble with soilds or even soft foods. Should I wait it out over the weekend to see if the swelling and tight goes away or should I go in for a slight unfill... And I do mean slight. I am somewhat afriad if I wait I could become dehydrated due to not being able to drink much liquid. I have been working on a 32oz cup of Water all day and am only about 3/4 thru it because I have to drink it super slow. I have had 1 Protein Shake and 2 cups of coffee and some very very runny Soup. Soup was a bit harder to keep down but I did do it.

Please help me if you or at lease give me suggestions if you can.

Thanks :)

Unfill, unless you want to live on soups/liquids.

Unfill! I went through the same thing in January. Had a fill on a Wednesday and all was well, liquids went down fine, next day mushies went down fine. Friday I was struggling, and Friday night I was coughing and throwing up. Didn't get back in to the doc til Tuesday and by then I was so weak from dehydration, I was ready for them to remove all of the fluid!! Thank goodness she only took out what had been added but in those six days I lost 11 lbs!! It took some doing to keep that 11 lbs off but I did it and even the doc office said this is good because usually you gain because the loss is consider sick weight and once the body recoups it puts the weight back on. So I would suggest not waiting it out and call your doc...

Best of luck to you!

Absolutely unfill before the weekend...even 0.25 ml can make a difference. Been there, lived it, hope it never happens again!!

Best wishes,

Mimi

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
