I was banded March 30th and had a hernia repair as well. Apparently, the hernia repair is quite common along with the band surgery. I am still on liquids and everything seems to be coming along as expected. However, I am still extremely sore in and around the port area. When does this improve? It feels like it is near my rib area and is making work very uncomfortable. It is better when I stand but doing book keeping and data entry I am sitting alot during the day. I am trying to get up and walk a bit about every hour. Also, still not sleeping well. Thanks.

Port site can be painful for a few weeks; you just had something sewn to your abdominal muscle. Use a heating pad if you can.

I was banded on 3/29 and I too have the discomfort. It's mostly when I lay on my side. It feels like something (port) is digging into my organs and ribs :) I'm glad to hear other people having this pain, and that it's normal. I thought I was losing my mind :)

Thanks! My first post op is not until next week and I just wanted to make sure this was "normal".

MsKate, it's nice to know you are not alone isn't it? as for your comment "Losing my mind" I don't mind as long as I lose some weight at the same time. :D

You just have to laugh about things sometimes, even if it hurts the port area. My mom about killed me this morning. She is recently home recovering from a hip replacement and accidentally brushed her teeth with her antibiotic cream. I thought I was going to split my incision!

FYI: If you are wearing underwire bras, that will make it hurt. About 5 months after my surgery I bought all new underwire bras and was having a lot of pain. When I went to the Dr. I told him about the pain, he told me port was close to my rib cage and the underwire of the bra was rubbing. I had to buy all new bras without the wire. Playtex Secrets have some good ones that hold you up.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
