I didn't stay overnight but I've seen a list on here of what to take if you are staying. Maybe use the search function.

I loved the sugar free Popsicles. I bought the tropical flavor and they were fab.

Get your pain meds and some liquid Tylenol (it has been recalled so try the CVS brand). I also really needed some low sugar apple juice as I had a headache that wouldn't quit at times except when I drank a tiny glass of the apple juice. I think I felt better when I stopped the heavy duty pain meds. I only needed it the day after surgery.

I think that's it. Eventually I found I needed listerine breath strips for a few weeks. I don't know if it was the Protein Shakes or the ketosis but I feared my breath was rank!

Good luck! You'll do great!

What did you take to the hospital for your overnight?

Honestly, nothing really. I had to bring my CPAP which was mandatory. If you wear contacts you can't wear them in surgery but if a loved one can hold them for you you can put them in afterward. Toothpaste and toothbrush. I was told not to worry about any medicine because they'll have it all there for you BUT I guess you can bring yours if you feel more comfortable. I never changed into PJ's I just stayed in my hospital gown and the non slip socks they provide.

What was the best thing when you got home?

I had already gotten my Vitamins, Calcium pills and I already had my pain medicine filled. Also make sure you have your Protein shakes. sugar free popsicles were a nice change also, so I had those on hand. If you get sick of Water like I do I had my sugar free kool-aid to help me get my liquids in.

What could you not do without those first days?

The thing I could not live without after surgery, my gas x strips! They were a life saver.

Hope this helped! Good luck with everything.

The best thing of all a POSITIVE attitude!!! Post op sometimes is not easy to follow through with, but is SOOOOOO worth it!

I too really liked the tropical SF popsicles. I also froze the Isopure, mixed with SF koolaid, made it more palatable and helped with my Protein counts.

The other thing I found that helped post op at home, was a dining room chair right next to the bed, gives you something to help manuever around with. And maybe a walking partner----walking is the best thing you can do, to move the gas, and help you recover!

Good Luck to you!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
