Can you take medicine in Pill form after surgery?

Recommended Posts

During one of my Pre-op visits one of the nurses mentioned to me that after surgery I would not longer be able to take medicine in pill form. Is this true?

You can take small pills. If they are large your doctor can tell you if they can/should be crushed or if there is a liquid form for you to take instead. If you take a time release pill it cannot be crushed or split.

Maybe the nurse was referring specifically to a pill that you currently take?

I take Ambien and a B complex daily. I can also take Tylenol. I don't know if that is because I haven't had a fill or if that's true for everyone.

I take my synthroid everyday without a problem, it's a tiny pill. My Vitamin and Calcium pills are chewable and any other pill I have to take can be cut up as long as they aren't time release.
