Mistake??? one thing after the next

Recommended Posts

Ok.. here goes... sooo I was banded on March 24th, and i started before surgery 310, im now down to 287, and boy is that amazing.. i love getting on the scale and seeing a new number, but ive become obsessed with weighing my self now (i know i have to stop lol) anyways, i had a really rough start.. was sent home the following day from surgery, had nausea and dry heaves, constant burping, a day an half later i was readmitted because of the dry heaves a nausea.. they checked the band everything was in place.. doctor said i had no complications with the surgery and i was a text book case took 30 min.. but i had an air bubble on top of the band which was causing all the heaves and nausea... i know they tell you to drink as much as you can, but c'mon how are you supposed to when your constantly feeling like crap... soo due to that, i was extremely dehydrated.. i got a bunch of fluids and nausea medication and was feeling 10 times better... was sent home the following day and started my fluids, doing good but these what you call PB'S are so friggin ANNOYING!!! its so unattractive and gross... when are they gonna stop??? then i goto my one week post of visit.. doctor said i look great.. I also told him that when i was burping i had pain in my chest that felt like a burp was getting stuck and then 5 seconds later it went away, he said its cause i was really tight.. anways.. nurse goes to take my vitals and my heart rate is at 180.. SERIOUSLY!!!!! once again im dehydrated!!! got 2 liters of fluids and back down to a 63... now im at my second day back to work and i feel like crap... burning in my chest, gas pains.. i just want it all to end... im reading everyones posts and im starting to feel like i made a huge mistake... i had enough issues before surgery and i really didnt think i was gonna have more after... Im trying to drink as much as i can but i started out with 1cc of Fluid in my band so my restricion is pretty extreme, i probably could go all day without eating or drinking,.. anyways.. i just want to know if anyone else out there has run into similar situations.. oh and then to make matters worse this morning the cardiologist who was monitoring my heart rate called and said my blood work came back and my liver function test was elevated!!! i never had any of these problems before surgery!! I dont want people to think im a hypocondraic (spelling).. I just hope things get better from here.. Def looking forward to start mushy foods on friday cause im so over liquids!!!

Anyways anyones input was greatly apprectiated!!!

Sammy

I'm by no means an expert, but it seems very likely your band area is highly swollen due to all the coughing and dry heaves and such. I'd think as things calm down, the swelling will go down, and your restriction will also go away, allowing you to eat or drink more normally.

Drinking liquids with a band is a technique you need to sort out. I just sipped a tiny amount of liquid over and over, as I got more used to the idea of drinking when I wasn't thirsty. i also drank icy cold Water, because I think it helped reduce swelling around the band area.

If you're drinking with a straw, stop that. It makes you swallow more air, and can cause excess burping. Sipping slowly seems to be the key.

I was fine for a week after surgery, but then developed dry heaves, and I had to be admitted to the hospital for a few hours till they got it under control. They gave me some anti-nausea meds and it stopped. After a few bags of IV fluids I was rehydrated, and everything moved forward. I've been fine since.

Keep after your doctor to address the problems. You didn't make a mistake being banded, but you may need assistance getting your feet under you. Good luck!

Thanks for all the input, i really hope things get better... im the type of person where i dont want to constantly call my doctor, i feel like im a bother, but i know.. its their job... i figure ill see how i fee after i start mushy foods, if im still having problems then ill give him a call... I def know im still not drinking enough, but ill learn to drink more.. i was never a big drinker before surgery so its a hole new ball game for me... and ive learned today that im not having PB'S today because i really havent eaten anything but just actual burps that seem like air.. Im not drinking from a straw ,so i dont know why I still have so much gas in me.. I take gas x literally all day long.. Anways hopefully my new chapter in life is a successful one, cause im ready to move past all this

I just lost my band, and i am heart broken! Please dont feel like a bother, i will call as much as you can. If i could do it all over again I should have called as soon as i started to have problems but instead i did not and my band eroded and cause a huge infection in my body. My kidneys slowed down and almost stopped working. If you feel bad then call!!! U can always get another band but you cant get another body. Keep a eye on it. I am not telling you this to scare you but i would hate for you to go thought what I did. I started out at 320 and now I am 168, I had the band for 2 years. I worked out alot. The last 6 months i started having lots of problems. Could not eat and when i did it hurt so bad. So please if you have problems call.

thanks... my heart breaks for you.. i just dont know if im really have that serious of a problem or if its just my body trying to accept the band...I remember i had a piercing and my body totally rejected it to the point where the skin started growing around the earring... i just hope im not having a similar situation... i feel like death in the mornings, but then as the day goes on i feel better.. tomorrow i get to start mushy foods so maybe its just cause i have so much acid in my stomach from just liquids.. and i def know i havent been drinking as much as i should, but like i said i was never a big drinker... i burp constantly which is honestly awful.. i cant stand it... then sometimes i have pain in the center of my chest i guess where the band is... honestly, i keep saying to myself if i knew i was going to have this many issues i probably would of never of done it, but then i go and look at everyones before and after pics and they look so successful, and im pretty sure im not the only one whos gone through this either... everyone keeps telling me that it will get better, but im getting really impatient.. i just want to feel normal again.. i go for my one month follow up on may 6.. and hopefully by then i will have no complaints...

I had pain in my chest for a few weeks, it turned out to be gas and eventually went away. Hope you feel better soon!:)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
