Help Me I am Starving

Recommended Posts

I need some serious help. I am starving. At night my tummy rumbles and rumbles. I do not get up and eat, but it hurts. I have only been banded for 7 days (so have way through my two week liquid, soft blends diet) but it is not enough. Is it okay to move on to week three foods? Also, the thought of having to drink another Protein Shake makes me want to vomit.

No, it is not ok to move forward. You need the sutures that hold your band in place inside to heal before proceeding, not following the guidelines could cause slippage.

First, are you sure the rumbles are not gas? That early on, I had a lot of rumbling and pain that was actually gas; both instestinal and abdominal (the kind pumped in during surgery).

I know what you mean about the Protein shakes, going on 3 years since my surgery and I still gag at the thought of them. Talk to your doctor and let them know you are hugry, they may have some suggestions. One I can remember is rather than buying ordinary broth, buy the chicken noodle Soup and strain out the meat, noodles and veggies. It may sound strange but that broth is more filling, just enough Protein and carb residue to make it so.

I drink the dannon dacactive yogurt drinks that are about 35 calories and only 3 oz. That can tide me over pretty good and they are a very thin liquid. V-8 juice works too and the V-8 fruit juices. I am 6 days and I miss chewing right now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
