Recommended Posts

Thanks Nikki.. there goes my $26,000! :)

Seriously though, I was just about to start taking the hydrocodone more often to try and relieve the gas pains. Mine are all under my ribs. Almost feels like a wide band tied around me, and within that area feels as if Ive been kicked my a horse! I think Ill keep taking the Milk of Magnesia for a while and see if that helps.

Kim - you Super Woman! 3 sets of 100 crunches. Girl, at this rate, you should weigh 90 pounds in a month. *laughs* And I dont want to hear any whining from you about eating. You get baby food already? I am on three weeks of clear/full liquids with two weeks to go. *groan* Where's my bottle?

Yes, thanks Nikki - what was I thinking? 26K for drugs? *laughs*

Sus - If it's on my "approved" list then I'm eating it! :-) I just thought I'd share my post op diet... it's interesting to see the differences in them... I'm typing directly from my instructions. I'm so sorry you're on Clear Liquids only! I promise not to complain about the baby food anymore! :-)

Post-Op Diet

The following diet is recommended to help recover from the procedure, optimize fat loss and overall h ealth, and to minimize potential muscle wasting. In addition, the post op diet is divided into three stages to help prevent dislocation of the band, pain, and vomiting and to allow gradual adjustment.

Stage I (Days 1-14)

Meal 1: 1 serving of one of the following: yogurt, sugar free pudding, applesauce, warm Soup or broth, or baby food

Meal 2: 1 serving of Myocel (protein shake)

Meal 3: 1 serving of one of the following: yogurt, sugar free pudding, applesauce, warm Soup or broth, or baby food

Meal 4: 1 serving of Myocel (protein shake)

Meal 5: 1 serving of one of the following: yogurt, sugar free pudding, applesauce, warm soup or broth, or baby food

Meal 6: 1 serving of Myocel (protein shake)

Stage II (Days 15-30)

Meal 1: 1 serving of one of the following: yogurt, sugar free pudding, applesauce, warm soup or broth, cottage cheese, oatmeal, grits, V8, or baby food

Meal 2: 1 serving of Myocel (protein shake)

Meal 3: 1 serving of one of the following: pureed meat, pureed vegetables, pureed fruit, pureed soup, mashed potatoes, or V8

Meal 4: 1 serving of Myocel (protein shake)

Meal 5: 1 serving of one of the following: pureed meat, pureed vegetables, pureed fruit, pureed soup, mashed potatoes, or V8

Stage III (30 Days +)Meal 1: This will be a cheat meal so we recommend 1 serving of whatever the patient is craving (breads, Pasta, pizza, baked potatoes, sweets, etc.) Notice: Check tolerance levels by taking small bites at first.

Meal 2: 1 serving of Myocel (protein shake)

Meal 3: 1 serving of any type of lean meat or fish (chicken, pork, turkey, ham, steak, etc.) 1 serving of green vegatables (lettuce, peas, broccoli - only the buds, green Beans, spinach, etc.)

Meal 4: 1 serving of Myocel (protein shake)

Meal 5: 1 serving of any type of lean meat or fish (chicken, pork, turkey, ham, steak, etc.) 1 serving of green vegatables (lettuce, peas, broccoli - only the buds, green Beans, spinach, etc.)

GOLDEN RULES FOR POST OP DIET:

1. Eat slowly and chew thoroughly (5-10 minutes for each bite)

2. Stop eating once fullness begins (the patient should feel pressure or a sense of fullness)

3. Avoid fibrous foods (asparagus, pineapple, rhubarb, oranges, and dried fruits, etc.)

4. Do not drink while eating (allow 15 minutes pre or post meals to consume coffee, tea, crystal light, etc.)

5. Do not return to eating after drinking

6. Check tolerance levels by taking small bites at first.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
