Today I decided to ride my bike. I had told my self I would take it easy. When I returned home I calculate to have riden 8 to 10 miles. I feel fine. But im worried that I might be doing too much too soon. is this normal behavoir five days post op?

Too much too soon. Your body requires 4-6 weeks to heal and recovery from a very invasive surgery, though you may not see or feel it as being such. I was not cleared for any strenuous exercise for 6 weeks, and while biking is an amazing exercise, I'd give my body time to heal before I jumped into biking. While you may feel good, internally your body may not. Give it the time and relaxation it needs to heal so that you can avoid problems in the future.

What about a light walk??? Since I am having a lot of problems with gas, the nurse advised me to walk and that would help the bloatness and gas I'm experiencing.

You may feel great, but your body still needs time to heal. Your port most likely has stitches holding it in place and this area needs time for the port to 'settle' in solidly. Same with your band. Most surgeons fold a flap of tissue over the band to keep it from slipping. This needs time to heal. You don't want to have to go back in when the stitches rip and your port flips.

I went home with strict instructions to walk for 30 minutes each day to prevent blood clots but no real exertion for 2 weeks. At my 2 week postop visit, he cleared me for more walking but still no exercises that involved jumping, bending or contorting for at least another 2 weeks.

I don't ride bikes (absolutely no sense of balance and I'd need training wheels :blink:), but aren't most bikes built in such a way that you have to lean forward? That would've been a no-no for me and my port was above my waist. I'd talk to your surgeon, although you may find in the next day or two that your body is also telling you that you overdid it with soreness in your port area.

I was instructed to walk for the first 2 weeks after surgery. I could walk as much as my body would take without being tired or sore. I also could use the exercise bands (when feeling good enough to do it, I was fortunate, I didn't have any pain).

At my 2 week post-op appointment I was feeling great and ready to work out and was told NO! And I wanted to start crunches and that was an absolute NO! It was explained to me that even though I felt great I was not to do any core exercises or stomach exercises. The post is sewn to a muscle and needs to "scar down" so that it will remain in place. Doing these types of exercises could hinder that. So until the 6 week post op visit it was walking/gazelle/ elliptical and exercise bands only.

Check with your doctor on what s/he says you can do. I know you want to get going, I did too, but we have to let our bodies heal and patiently wait, no matter how hard it is. :)

I feel like I could do some really light and simple exercises... 6 weeks without anything but walking...omg!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
