I was banded 3.29.11 first 3 days were tough. By the fourth day I was starving. I was doing every thing by the "book". on the 4th day I was cooking a fillet of cod for my son.it smelled so good! I could not help myself and went for a taste.... A taste led to me eating about an ounce. Is this normal? I told myself that I would not do that again. now on day 5 I feel no restriction and totally fine. Will that lead to complications or obstructions?

being newly banded, you won't have any restriction. most surgeons don't put any fill in the band during surgery so, as you heal, you'll be able to eat normally... not saying you SHOULD eat normally, only that you could.

some people even gain a few pounds during this stage and it's called "BANDSTER HELL" because you're banded but don't receive the benefits until your first couple of fills.

BUT, please, please follow your doctor's post-surgery diet. that is VERY important!! you're still healing even though you may feel fine.

By my third day post-op I was ready to eat my dog! He was just lucky he could move faster than I.

But, words of caution....fish can easily get stuck! I am not talking about tuna from a can, but a filet...getting stuck and retching this soon after surgery can be a very bad thing.

Doctors put us on liquids during the post-op phase because they anchor the band down with just a few stitches and they do not want the stomach to grind during the healing period. Liquids and mushies don't cause grinding like solids do. But, some doctors move the post-op phases along quicker than others...so there is some difference of opinion as to how long we need to be on liquids and mushies.

Try your best to stick with what YOUR doctor has ordered for you. He or she has reasons for those orders. When I told my doctor how hungry I was when he called me at 3 days post-op, he moved me from Clear Liquids to full liquids, I was in heaven! I was expecting to be on clears for a week, but I was healing so well he let me move faster.

Give yours a call, maybe you can move along and have something more substantive.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
