Any Non Scale Victories?

Recommended Posts

I'm doing my best to not focus on my weight so today I have been thinking about the non scale victories that I have achieved over the past month (just banded in March 2011).

1. I NO longer drink Diet Dr. Pepper (all day long habit) & or coffee. I've replaced them both with water!

2. I NO longer have to take medicine for acne & my complexion, after 2 yrs of oral acne medication, has never been better! (thank you water!)

3. My clothes are loose.

4. I'm not craving sweets.

5. I have not had a headache in 21 days. I was having them at least every other day - caffeine? poor food choices? I don't know! I don't care, they're gone!! :)

That's what I've got after 35 days when I started my 2 week pre -op Optifast & 21 days of band living. :) For me, all of this is huge.

I'd love to hear all of your NSV's....(from anytime, not just from March/April 2011!) :)

1. I was able to zip up and wear comfortably a couple of jeans I bought that said size 18, but no where near.

2. No acid reflux and can sleep through the night :)

3. Went shopping in my closet and found some clothes I can now wear that I hadn't in a very long time.

4. Was able to slowly get off my anti-depressants (huge for me!)

I interviewed for a job last July and just started the job in Debussy one of the people I interviewed with said she could see the difference in my face fro

Then until now.

I still have my old work badge and compared the picture with the new one and I was pleasantly surprised by the difference.

Nice post!

I was banded last month. Here's a few of my non-scale victories...

1. I can pick just about anything in my closet & it fits!

2. I have more energy.

3. I can walk up the stairs at home & work without needing a break and breathing like I'm about to die!

4. That special time with the hubby has been fantastic :D

I have a funny NSV, or it may be TMI but I'll share it anyway.

When I sit in the toilet, my belly no longer blocks my view into it. LOL

I was also banded in March. I have some of the same as you all:

1. No longer drink diet coke like it's Water. Replaced with Water & ice tea.

2. My clothes that I could barely fasten and that left me with a gigantic muffin top, now are loose and comfy.

3. Bought a couple new workout pants and had to go down to a size "L" instead of the "XL" i've been wearing for as long as I can remember.

4. I have a ton of energy and go on multiple playdates and outings a day with my two small children (1yrs & 3yrs).

5. When I went back to the gym for the first time since surgery, I was able to type my weight into the elliptical program and it began with a "1..".

I'm sure there's more. I'm just a really much happier person in general! Congratulations to all of you on your NSV's as well!!

I love NSV posts!

1. I fit comfortably in an airplane seat. Belt buckles AND I can tighten it! I can keep my arms comfortably at my sides without intruding into other people's space. I can put the tray table down and it comes nowhere close to my belly. This has been such an amazing change for me-- flying is no longer filled with shame.

2. I can sit in seats in public venues without 1) worrying that I will break that rickety chair, or 2) have bruises on my thighs from squeezing in, or 3) rubbing body parts with the person squeezed next to me.

3. I can close a normal-sized towel around me without showing any of my goodies.

4. I can wear cute shoes! I had plantar fasciitis before and could only wear Crocs for about 6 months before surgery-- even then, just walking around in my house gave me pretty bad foot pain. That went away very early in the weight loss process and now I can wear heels again.

5. I no longer avoid my reflection. I'm not vain or anything, but when I pass a mirror, I'll actually look.

6. I am able to exercise, though I should do it more. Yoga and Zumba are currently my faves.

7. I am down from a tight 3x in tops to a size L, and from a 22 in pants to a 12 (and I have two pairs of 10's that fit now too).

8. I can wear my wedding ring again. In fact, it's getting too loose.

9. My driver's license has me 70lbs HIGHER than my actual weight. I have to renew it this summer anyway, so I've just been putting it off. In fact, I'm a little worried about my passport-- I just got it last year and I don't want to pay for another one just because I look SO different. Anyone have any experience with this? I know I'll need it 2x in the next year to travel to the Dominican Republic, and then Asia.

I could go on, but I have to get ready for work!

Blood pressure normal for the past 3 months - no medication required now after 4 years of taking it

Peripheral edema of the feet (swollen feet from Water retention) gone

sleep apneoa gone - no CPAP machine needed any more

Breathing problems from emphysema lessened

Clothes fit better - more room in the wardrobe after a fat clothes reduction

Energy levels increased

Sexual drive returned

New nickname from the Grand Kids - Grandpa Frumpy (no longer Grandpa Fatty)

Im now only 2 times my wifes weight instead of almost 3 times (and 2 times her age - hahahahaha)

We can both fit into the bed comfortably

We can both fit on the one motor scooter without one of us falling off the back

and the list goes on .........

1. I was able to put on my favorite jeans from college, that I haven't been able to wear in 11 years.

2. I am able to run and play with my kids

3. I've been getting compliments on how great I look!

4. Almost excited to buy a new swimsuit this summer!

Definately still have a ways to go but I have to Celebrate the small victories!

Wearing size 2s!

Was asked if I had a "heavy" sister who worked in another building (I don't, but I'm used to being the heavy one!)

Doing 30-50 GUY push ups at once.

Seeing tone in my abs.

Having a friend say he could wrap his arms around my twice if he tried. LOL!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
