Looking forward to my new beginning

Recommended Posts

My name is Kendra and I am a 33 year old wife and mother of two. I have been overweight since after having my daughter in 1998. So this is no longer baby fat. At my heaviest I was 247 lbs and I am only 5'1". I have been thinking about having the lap band for a couple of years now. I would make the appointment with TrueResults to talk about it but would never follow through. Once I reached 247 I figured something had to change or my husband was going to be a single father and I could not do that to him. I started watching what I ate at the beginning of 2011 and started working out with some of my friends at work. I went for my first TrueResults meeting with my husband in mid January. At my inital TrueResults meeting I weighed 236 lbs. I had my follow up meeting and got the approval for surgery from my insurance company in early March. I went on my liquid diet on March 17 and was banded on March 31. My weight at the time of being banded was 220 lbs. A lot of people say "why did you do it? You have lost X amount of weight on your own." I say to them "I have dieted before and have always gone back to my old eating habits and hopefully this will force me to stick with it." I am excited and looking forward to my new beginning.

I am with you. I have tried so many diets Atkins, Weight Watcher, Nutrisystem. Somehow I always seem to go back to my old eating habits. I get hungry watching others eat the BAD foods that I was avoiding. When my weight would plateau I would give up. I am hoping that the band will keep my full and keep me from craving the BAD foods or at least from overeating those bad foods. I am hoping with the additional help with the band, I will lose weight a little easier and be able to work out more with more energy. My surgeon will be submitting to the insurance company this week for approval. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
