Hello Everyone.

I began my Band journey in December of 2010. I have a tentative surgery date of May 23/24, 2011.

I have lost 80 lbs on the Weight Watchers program since 2008. I gained 40 of those pounds back last year. Since January 19, 2011 I have lost 35 of those 40 lbs.

As my surgery date approaches, I am so filled with anxiety. I know I can lose this weight on my own but I cannot keep it off. I am already doing the right things in the food and exercise department. Do you experienced Banders think that this will benefit me once I have the surgery?

I guess I am just looking for some feedback from Banders who had succeeded at losing weight before the surgery and how that experience helped them afterward.

Thanks in advance!

I was just like you! Lost and gained on Weight Watchers two times. It's a great program, but like ANY diet, we gain it back. I got banded three days ago. I am so positive about it! The reason I think we gain back after diets is that we can't keep the weight off forever cause under normal circumstances, we get HUNGRY, and we can't diet forever. I am already seeing how the lap band makes me feel satisfied with little intake. I know it is just from the post surgery stomach swelling right now, but once the band it tightened, it will be even better! I can see how eventually, I will be able to eat ANYTHING, only in very small amounts, but feel satisfied and never deprived!

Good luck to you! Losing like you have done on WW, you are a PERFECT candidate for the lap band!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
