Why did you end up going back for the test at all, what was wrong? What fill level did you finally get up to? I am now at a 10.3 in an 11cc band, has anyone else been near that? I agree with sticking with the Ortiz team they really are great, the problem just is the location (I live in Alberta) and yes crossing the border took forever, not three hours for us but a good hour anyway.

I had a great experience with the staff at OCC and Dr. Ortiz. I'd recommend him to anyone. I saw the Newsweek article and thought it was a little questionable, but I wouldn't read into it that much. I wish that I would have gone back there for my fills because I've just gone locally with a Physician's Assistant who also had Dr. Ortiz do hers. I never had flouroscopy done until last week when I went back to Tijuana and Dr. So ended up doing an unfill at the OCC. My pouch was swollen and now I have to wait 7 weeks before going to a place with x-ray, which is a Fill Center USA about 3 hours away. I will never go back to the Physician's Assistant again. It was a lot of wasted money guessing where my magic number was and we had no idea that I was stretching out my pouch. I'd say the very worst part of going to Mexico is leaving the border! We moved 3 times in 3 hours! I had no clue and came very unprepared; no book, ipod, magazine, nothing! The driver, Joel, was great, but we could only carry on a broken English conversation for so long before running out of things to say! The staff is so kind at the OCC and now I'd love to go back to the Ariel Center there for some Botox!

My surgery isn't until 10/28/11 but from what I've read, I will NEVER get a fill, unfill, or anything else done without fluro. It seems so archaic and backwards that doctors will even attempt to do it without. They can't see what they're doing! It's a guessing game. It seems so wrong. It makes me angry that this even goes on - the health care system in this country has become so ridiculous, it's a freaking joke. I have a cousin from Italy who got the band. She had to pay like 300 Euro for the hospital stay, they kept her in for a week to make sure everything was okay, and she never had to pay anymore than that. She has now had the band for about 8 years and she's still doing great. That's about $500. Socialized medicine. I don't know about you guys, but if this stupid country doesn't improve and start taking care of it's people, I want OUT.

My family was planning a trip to Southern California anyway so I thought that since I'd never had it done under flouro, that I'd get a quick check. I'd had a few concerns with PBing and thought it was worth the time going across, which it was. I'd love to go back there for my next fill, but I'm in Idaho and that's not a whole lot better than Alberta! I've read good things about Dr. Muse in Salt Lake City and hope things will go well when I'm there in October. Thanks for asking!

I don't know about getting a fluoro every time, it may be pretty pricey. The fills itself really aren't all that complicated. They take approximately 10 seconds (at least mine do). I go to a doctor here who does the surgery himself so knows what he is doing. But you just lie back on the bed with your stomach areched, he feels the port and injects your required amount - done. There have been a few times where I have questioned my total amount so what he does is inject the needle and can slowly withdraw the whole amount, read it and re-inject it. Don't be afraid of the fills.

Although I do trust my doctor I would like to go back to Ortiz once too just to get an over-all check. The only reason is the amount of experience he has. I may do that this year. The doctors we all have always seem to be in such a hurry and it seemed so much more personable down south.

I was banded at the OCC by Dr Ortiz on september 9th. That was the day after a huge power outage in s. Cali which also affected TJ. I was afraid they would postpone my appointment but it was business as usually at the OCC.

The Staff is great and my surgery was a breeze. I was in our hotel by 4 pm .

I am looking forward going back for my fill.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
