Quickly losing control :(

Recommended Posts

I've been on the liver reduction diet since January 5. I started doing very well, and was losing weight. Now that I've been approved and waiting for a surgery date, I'm losing all control. I'm eating things I know I'm not supposed to and slipping into old habits. I feel like crap:(

I thought the liver reduction diet was the liquid diet we go on for a week or two pre-surgery. Perhaps I am wrong?

Regardless, hang in there. Start tomorrow over and keep the dialog going. If you want to instant message with people tomorrow to keep you from making poor food choices, then do that. Pull in all of your support people and call your friends. That's what they are there for.

If it helps any, I'll be home tomorrow in the morning until noon-ish in California and would be available for instant messaging. Hang in there!

Thanks guys! My diet is no carb, no fruit, no fun. Basically lean meat and carbless veggies. It's gotten very boring.

You've been doing great, keeping on since January!

I did a very low carb diet for a month before my surgery (on my own authority). So I commend you for your dedication to do this for three months!

I don't know if this will work for you, but this did work for me and didn't stall my pre-op weight loss (30 lbs). Every two weeks or so, I would have a carb-filled meal (usually Pasta, a love of mine), completely guilt free. After that "whatever I want" meal, I got right back on the wagon for the next two weeks of Proteins and low-carb veggies. It helped me feel less deprived and dedicated to staying on track.

Now that you're approved, hopefully you won't have to keep it up for another 3 months. I promise, everything you do now is such a big help for after surgery.

Welcome to my world (although I'm not confined to just 'lean' meat). My diet in order to keep from being hungry and to be insulin free is Protein and low carb vegies (all vegies have carbs by the way) like broccoli, green Beans, salad. No grains, fruit or starches. Yeah, I miss them (particularly the fruit) but I don't miss taking insulin more so I have a different motivation.

Anyway...if you don't have a metabolic disorder (e.g. hypoglycemia, diabetes) that is immediately impacted by these types of carbs, then it's certainly less harmful to 'cheat' with a piece of fruit than some kind of junk food. So, and obviously only my .02, have that piece of fruit if it keeps you from the junk.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
