I am having my first fill aptil 15. I had surgry 3/2 and lost about 25 lbs, but have been really upset because in almost 2.5 weeks since i really lost anything. What should I expect after my first fill? Will I still be starving ? Will i start to lose more weight???

Your weight loss is great! 25 pounds in a month is awsome! Sorry to say, your first fill probably won't make you feel any different. For a lucky few it does. It took me 3 fills to feel any restriction. As far as the procedure, it's fairly easy. The doc. (or nurse if that's who does it at your office) will inject something to numb you, then use a needle to access the port. The needle is kind of long, but don't worry, you won't feel anything. At least that is my experience. Good luck and please don't be down on yourself, you are doing just great.

Im in the same boat as you...I got banded 3/2/11 and have lost 28lbs, but have stopped losing in the last 2wks. I get my first fill this friday 4/8/11...i am hoping it gives me some restriction. i don't know how much he will put but i hope it is enough to at least give me a bit of restriction...keep motivated & good luck!!!

Congratulations on the 25 lb. weight loss!

I was banded on 11/22 and had my first fill on 1/7. At first, I didn't feel any different. Then, about two weeks later, I felt some restriction. It wasn't much restriction, but some is better than none. I had my second fill last Friday and I don't feel much difference.

My doctor does his fills under flouroscopy. First, he uses the screen to find the port. Then, he cleans the area and gives me a numbing shot. Next, he inserts the needle into the port. It doesn't hurt, but I do feel a little pressure. After that, the tech moves the table into an upright position. My doctor has me drink a little barium and he watches it go through the band. Then, he injects some Fluid. I drink again and he watches. If I am too tight, he removes Fluid. It takes about 5 minutes to do it all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
