Stupid scale!

Recommended Posts

I'm having scale issues. I weigh myself in one spot and then if I move the scale a couple of inches and weigh myself again, it's a 4 lb difference! How do I know which weight is correct?

You probably need to replace the batteries.

Whenever i have a chance whether it be at the doctor (best place) I weigh myself in my clothes i'm going to wear to the doctor without my shoes. At the doctor I weigh myself to get real weight (i think doctor is the best bet when it comes to this). I compare the 2 weights. I write down my weight from home and write down the weight the doctor gives me. My scale is precisely 2 pounds and 2 ounces more than the doctor's. Hope this helps.

I considered that but it's a brand new scale.

Jenn,

I am laughing here, but definitely not at you. It's a running joke in my house. I can step on my scale and then get a certain weight, step off into the bathroom, come back after not doing anything in the bathroom, and "gain" 3 pounds. The other day my boyfriend finally replaced the battery because the scale actually said LO. He put the battery in and then put it down in the living room. I stepped on it and got one weight. We moved it to the bedroom and I stepped on and had again "gained" 3 pounds. I don't know what the real weight is!!! I am using my doctors numbers once a month. I figure that our bodies are changing so much that the scale doesn't even really know from minute to minute what it says!!! According to my scale I have lost 19 pounds since my pre-op bloodwork day on March 23. I find it gratifying that the scale is going down but I don't put that number in stone.

Do what another poster said and check your doctors scale against yours. Heck, bring your scale to the doctor so you have some idea of what a "real" weight is!

Good luck :)

Donna

Make sure you have it on a level surface, not carpeting. If I weigh myself on a hard surface and then again on carpeting, it is very different.

Good luck!

Same thing with me , what I do now is leave the scale in the same spot , I use the tiles on the floor to line it up , as far as the doctor scale it's always 5 to 8 pounds heavier then my scale at home

I can leavee my scale in the exact same place, and get 2 completely different numbers. Sometimes it's because i didn't realize something had gtten under it thanks to the dogs, and sometimes it's just tempermental. I tend to go with the higher number, that way if it stays at that number for awhile, i'm not going to be bummed thinking I gained.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
